Couples Combined Budget
Merging finances as a couple is harder than the math. The numbers part is straightforward. The part where you agree on who pays for what, how much personal spending is fine without checking, and what "saving more" actually means in dollar terms takes a conversation you can't avoid.
This template structures that conversation.
You enter both incomes, set the shared contribution percentage, and the spreadsheet handles the split. If one partner earns more, the proportional model means both partners contribute the same percentage of their income to shared expenses. The remainder is personal spending money. Neither partner has to justify every personal purchase.

Does it work for fully combined finances, or only for splitting?
Both, and the split is a setting rather than a rebuild. Fully combined, fully separate with shared bills, or the common middle where a proportional amount goes to a joint account and the rest stays personal. The yours, mine, and ours columns are always present and you decide how much flows through each.
How does it handle unequal incomes?
Contributions can be proportional to income rather than equal, which is the arrangement most couples with a meaningful income gap end up at. The sheet works out each share from the incomes you enter, so the conversation is about the percentage rather than about the dollar amounts.
Can we each keep private spending?
Yes, and the personal columns are deliberately not itemised. Both partners see the totals and the joint categories in full detail; neither has to account for what they spent their own allocation on. Couples who track every personal purchase jointly tend to stop using the budget.
